On Tuesday, a 38-year-old Science teacher at a government-aided school in Mudukulathur was detained for sexually harassing a Class 9 pupil under the POCSO Act.
Following a news report regarding his telephonic communication with a Class 9 girl student, the culprit, known as A Habeeb Mohammed, was apprehended by police.
According to the students, the social science and mathematics teacher used to call them on their phones after school hours. Moreover, they used to make double-meaning statements in class, improperly touching them in class. An audio clip went viral in which a guy is heard having a sexually improper talk with the girl and inviting her to his place without her parents' knowledge.
The man can be heard mentioning and making vulgar comments about numerous other females at the school in the footage. Furthermore, according to the news story, he attempted to pressure the youngster into sexual behavior in return for improved grades.
According to a statement released by the district police, a team comprised of the police wing for the prevention of Crime against Women and Children Additional Superintendent of Police Loyola Ignatius, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Mudukulathur), Inspector of Mudukulathur police station, the District Child Protection Officer, and Kamuthi All Women Police Station conducted an investigation on Tuesday.
The statement reads, "It was found that the teacher had sent obscene messages to the student on June 18 and indulged in a provocative telephonic conversation with her the next day."
The science teacher was arrested by the Mudukulathur police under Section 11 read with 12 of the POCSO Act and Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act after the girl's parents filed a complaint.
